Stephanie: Never Settle For Less Than The Best

Hi Stephanie, please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your goals and what you like to do in your free time. I’m Stephanie Marie Wierenga I have two prosthetic legs and a brain injury. My goals are to be completely independent and in my spare time I like to just visit.

If you don’t mind my asking, how were you injured? I was in a car accident where I was hit by a semi hauling two combines. My car was thrown six hundred feet and I was trapped in it for two hours. The jaws of life were needed to get me out. I got airlifted by stars. I got my legs and fingers amputated and I got a diffuse axonal brain injury.

How do you find the inspiration to move forward after your accident? I don’t want the accident to win and I think my stubbornness helps I want to win this one.

How did the accident change your outlook on life & why? It made me a little more stubborn and I look at things differently. Yes I have a brain injury and am missing parts, but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I want to prove that.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now & why? Did this outlook change completely since the accident or is it relatively similar? I want to be an inspirational speaker or a prosthetic leg model girl. This accident has changed how I do and think of things. It has made my attitude better and given me more drive to do things and get them done right.

Who’s someone that inspires you in your every day life & why? I have a life to live. Sure I got hurt and now divorced but I use that more to keep going and be someone inspiring. Well I want to prove that I’m no failure and my husband divorced me for my body or lack there of and I feel that I need to turn heads.

How do you plan to turn heads in your community and in the world? Just to walk and what not. I have fake legs and no fingers so people will stare because they’re wondering and if they stare I will tell them what happened. I have no fingers but they’re surprised to see that I can do my makeup still.

Name two people: one who’s influenced your life greatly in a positive way & one who’s influenced your life in a negative way. How did these people each change your life for the better and why. My bother is positive and he gets me to go the extra mile to get better. My ex-husband is negative he made me feel useless.

Keep your head up and never settle for less than the best.

If you could change the world in one way, what would it be? To stop crime/disagreement and there be more love. Like no presidents, no jails and such because everyone would love each other and just worry about how the next guy is doing.  So no selfishness.
