This bucket list item is one of my originals, set in November of 2007. As someone who's always been interested in professional singing, I certainly wanted to sign an autograph... there's just something about it. That said, I'm very particular about my goals, so when a few of my friends & family members requested that I leave them photos of me with my signature prior to moving to Nashville, I didn't accept that as signing an autograph. I wanted someone I didn't know to honestly ask me.
Back in December of 2010, I flew home from Nashville to North Idaho with a stop in Chicago & one in Seattle. The wait to see my family & my boyfriend was unbearable & traveling alone was never something I enjoyed... but neither was living so far away from home alone.
On my second flight headed into Seattle, I sat next to a woman who was so curious as to where I was coming from. When we got to talking, I explained to her why I had moved so far away from home. And, to say the very least, she was thrilled! She couldn't believe that I had done something so 'brave'. To be honest, I didn't feel in the slightest bit brave moving 2,147 miles away from home... & that was mainly because I'd spent the first month crying & the rest of them not socializing or going out with anyone. - But she was going on & on about what a 'big deal' this was for me & how independent I would be no matter where I ended up. Then, she asked me a that question - the one that I'd always wanted to hear.
"Can I have your autograph?"
You have to admit, it is rather funny that I've always wanted to be asked this question, when many girls dream about a proposal instead. But seriously - this woman's response to my having moved so far away lifted my spirits more than she could have possibly known.
At first, I was in a state of shock. Why in the heck would she want my autograph? I'm a nobody. But the more I thought about it, the more excited I got. Wow, I thought to myself, this one's actually real. I'm really signing my first official autograph. And this was the goal that made me realize that, sometimes, you will need others to help you accomplish your goals. Some goals are to chance... but doesn't that make them incredibly exciting?
This goal is transferable - because there are so many industries that allow you to pursue this bucket list item. A singer, writer, actor, dancer, sports, etc... even Disneyland! It's fun & it's certainly a confidence booster.
This woman, whoever she was... she may not know it, but she really changed my world & I feel awful because I never really got the chance to thank her. She gave me strength to keep going. Thank you kind stranger!
Are you willing to go the distance?
