Fashion Designer KATE KINKLE

My name is Kate Kinkle, I am a Seattle-based clothing/ jewelry designer and also an elementary school sewing instructor. I am planning on showcasing my collection at Seattle Fashion Week, coming up in June; it’s my first big fashion/ trunk show.

1. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? How do you plan to get there? Ten years from now, I plan on having a well-known collection featured in stores and festivals worldwide. I hope my business will allow me to travel the world for inspiration and fabrics. I feel like I’m on the right path and headed in that direction.

2. What did you want to be ‘when you grow up?’ How has this affected the person that you are today? I always knew that I wanted to be an artist; I thought I was going to be a painter. Art is my passion; I know I was meant to do something creative.

“I know I was meant to do something creative.”

3. You’re a designer! Tell us about your career & what advice you would give to someone who’s looking to do the same. To get where I am today I have never given up. Sewing is not easy and learning this trait is similar to learning another language; it’s not going to stick unless you use it all the time. A big part of this industry is networking and connections with people.

4. What’s been the biggest challenge in your life so far? How did you conquer it? Accepting the fact that relationships and people come and go in life. Now, I pick and choose people more carefully.

5. Tell us about your biggest accomplishment in life so far. How has this changed you? The biggest accomplishment so far has been opening my own design studio in Seattle. It has allowed me more create design space and a place to run my business.

6. What’s something that you had to learn the hard way? Dealing with clients. LOL.

7. Do you have a bucket list? Physical or only on your mind? Tell us about a few of your goals in life, big or small. I want to travel the world. I want to be happy, healthy and free. I am someone who lives in the moment, so I haven’t really thought about a bucket list.

8. What is one way you have paid it forward?
I am a loyal friend. The people in my life that are the closest I will do anything for. I have always been there for my friends in time of need.

9. What other advice would you like to give to the readers of 2147miles.com? Find your passion in life, it keeps you creative and happy.
