Get Out & Vote!

My days are spent thinking about all of the bucket list options out there. Obviously, they are infinite, so I do sometimes consider myself overwhelmed. But, as I was driving through Oregon yesterday, I found myself thinking about voting. Have you ever voted? Is this a goal of yours?

I think that it’s fair to say that this year’s election is a very crazy one. Each side, it seems, is ready to wage a war. And, then you have the people in the middle, who have decided they are just not going to vote. And, whether it’s the thought that they won’t make a difference, or perhaps their lack of understanding in this election, I start to get nervous.

Now, this goes without saying that I do not have a lot of political knowledge. I’ve had zero intentions to ever get involved with the primaries. And, let’s be honest, it would be an easy out to just decide that your vote doesn’t matter… because, yeah, even if the election is close, who’s to say that a president will be elected based on popular vote? … Right?

Getting out to vote has been an undocumented bucket list item of mine since I turned 18 years old, & it has been that way because of several different factors. For one, I want my voice to be heard. And, just as the rest of the world goes, sometimes letting my voice be heard doesn’t always mean that I get what I want. For two, I want to exercise my rights. And three? There is a part of me that takes pride in this action. Prior to the election, I’ll have done my homework, & will make a decision on who is the best candidate (or who I think would be better that doesn’t happen to be on the ballot.)

Alright, now I’m going to address the elephant in the room: the running Presidential candidates. So many people don’t vote because they do not like who’s running. So many people don’t vote because they don’t “want to deal with the drama” of expressing their opinion… On a ballot that your friends & family won’t ever see.

You don’t have to tell anyone who you voted for, regardless of who wins.

You don’t have to vote for the people who are on the ballot (you can write in anyone, whether they are previous candidates, or your best friend.)

Do yourself a favor, & get out & vote in this upcoming election. Let your voice be heard!

Amy
